There are many MMOG players that scoff at the tidal-wave of Korean-based level-grind-heavy games that almost literally flood the free-to-play market. However, the oriental-inspired Kal Online is definitely one of the better Korean MMORPGs out there.
In a recent update, Kal Online introduces a new pet system update, where four pets are introduced. Being an oriental fantasy, you may have already guessed what the four pets are.
Blue Dragon (aggressive),
White Tiger (protective)
Red Bird (defensive)
Black Tortoise (agressive)
Depending on a pet’s attribute, players get variety of status buffs, kalonline geons such as attack-power boosts or defense-boosts from their pets during monster fights and PvP.
Kal Online is what one would consider an above-average free-to-play MMORPG. While certainly not the most original title in terms of game-play or innovation, the game is enjoyable in it’s own right. Kal Online has three character classes to choose from, (Knight, Archer, and Magician). It features some very large maps (which, while impressive, can make traveling a bit tedious), good graphics, decent content and enjoyable PvP. As is typical with many Korean-based free to play MMORPGs though, getting to the good content requires quite a bit of level grinding.
For a free-to-play title, Kal Online is certainly a respectable choice, and four pets steeped in Asian lore make the game all the more appealing. In case you’re wondering, the four pets, Blue Dragon, White Tiger, Red Bird and Black Tortoise, represent benevolence, righteousness, prosperity and wisdom, respectively, as well as many other things.
